Pearson is the world's leading learning company, trusted by over 160 million people at all life stages to support and enrich their education. Offering a wide range of tools, resources and support for schools, colleges, universities and workplaces, it aims to make a lasting, positive impact on lives through learning experiences.
For its 2022 annual report, Pearson wanted to communicate its continued commitment to sustainable business through its ESG pillars. It also wanted to showcase its digital product offering, which will play an instrumental role in reskilling millions of people so they can thrive in a sustainable, digital world.
Thanks to our long-standing status as a trusted communications partner to Pearson, we were asked to create a narrative that outlined its corporate strategy, sustainability objectives and progress on global access to learning.
Our first step in creating an impactful annual report was streamlining the process. We wanted to avoid unintentional duplication, which had crept into previous iterations of the report. Our goal was also to make the process easier for everyone, so we set clear content requirements and actions from the very beginning.
Working collaboratively with the Pearson team, we provided more strategic direction and support. We offered honest and constructive feedback on the report's structure and content, identifying areas where the narrative flow needed to improve and opportunities for more robust facts.
We focused on communicating essential information and proof points – ensuring the report was tighter, more succinct and conveyed Pearson’s core, strategic messages. Once the structure was signed off, we created a streamlined, focused design for the report, with our creatives using infographics and imagery to clearly call out areas of focus.
The annual report demonstrated the breadth and scale of the business, the alignment across its divisions, and the role Pearson plays in consumers’ lifetime learning journey.
The report was commended by the business and key stakeholders for clearly setting out Pearson’s strategy. We included strong proof points that showed how the business is evolving to better serve the needs of the changing consumer landscape with its commitment to sustainability at its core.
Following the launch of the annual report, Pearson experienced a significant increase in online web traffic, reaching twice the number of visitors compared to the previous year’s report.
